A.Gunaseela - long years back this place was a market place and there was no residents. all around this area lot of tea estates and the labourers used to come for purchasing of food materials which was transported by the merchants by the bullock carts. the cart is called as " vandi " and these vandies were parked near the periyar river bridge, the name for this place become vandiperiyar.
